Irresitable Blueberries

The Job: Monavale Blueberries

Time: Crazy Early!

Who: Borden Li (photo) and Murdoch Daly (video)

Our Mission: We had an urgent request from a lovely Holland family and friends of the Hamilton Farmers Market, to help create promotional material for their blueberry business,  Monavale Blueberry farm. Our mission, to film and photograph their flowering blueberry bushes and flowers in perfect, soft morning light. Why was this job so urgent? Because Blueberries only flower for a very short time and a single frost could wipe the flowers out in one foul swoop!

Result: The shoot was a success! It turned out to be a gorgeous spring morning with a crisp wind, blue sky, puffy white clouds and the resonating sound of buzzing bees and SHOTGUN BLASTS! Don’t worry, the loud gun shots was simply an air gun, firing blanks off ever 10 minutes to scare the birds. It was great to be working outside in such a beautiful environment (beats an office any day!). Thanks to Marco and Kath for the coffee and cakes, and we’ll see you in a few months for the blueberry picking season! Can’t wait!

Canon 5D Mark II Video Shoot Behind The Scenes Photos

Photo and video by Vincent Laforet

The new Canon 5D Mark II promo video is out. view the HD version REVERIE.

The picture looks amazing, camera low light performance is superb. I can not wait to get my 5D upgraded.

Here are some behind the scenes photos.

After Nikon’s D90 release, Canon is trying very hard to match customer exceptions, but I still think Nikon’s promo video (by Chase Javis) is way cooler. Anyway, 5D Mark II is a really good camera for both video and still photograpy for sure, I am just worry about the battery life, that’s all.

DIY portable movie rail system

We often  see chase
scene movements in film. This picture needs to be rather stable.

Professional rail system is heavy, and expensive to use. We find it hard to carry around
and use.
What we need is a low cost, lightweight and portable rail system.

On one weekend, my colleague Murdoch has done some research online. He
found that low-cost DIY rail system is very doable. And use only common materials at we see every day.

We will soon get our shopping List, including:

  • 40mm PVC Waste Water Pipe @ 3m x 2
  • 40mm PVC end cap x 4
  • L shaped aluminum joint. (cut into 3 pieces at 150mm each)
  • Warehouse skateboards. x 2 (We need 8 wheels)
  • 8 sets of nuts and bolts.
  • A couple of wood blocks.

Well, nothing is impossible.

BCGD degree show 2008

Exhibition

The Degree Project Exhibition showcases the talents of our graduates studying within Bachelors and Honours of Computer Graphic Design. Each student has explored a subject area based on individual personal interests, future professional goals or have undertaken their postgraduate aspirations.

Despite this year’s degree show only has about 15 students, some good ideas were around, more money have been spent on their exhibition stands, and most importantly they made them look pretty.

I was honored to be initiated to be a moderator for the degree show for the second time. I was very glad to see everyone’s work and hope the best for their design career.

Multitouch Table Project

Microsoft Surface Table

I recently got myself into a new interactive topic called Multitouch Table. Like the Microsoft Surface table, it is basically a big multi point touch screen that allows user to interact with. Anyway, this project gets me really excited and I want to build one myself in the near future.

Multi-touch is a human-computer interaction technique and the hardware devices that implement it, which allow users to compute without conventional input devices (e.g., mouse, keyboard). Multi-touch consists of a touch screen (screen, table, wall, etc.) or touchpad, as well as software that recognizes multiple simultaneous touch points, as opposed to the standard touchscreen (i.e. computer touchpad, ATM), which recognizes only one touch point. This effect is achieved through a variety of means, including but not limited to: heat, finger pressure, high capture rate cameras, infrared light, optic capture, and shadow capture.

Three days of mourning for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Sichuan province.

half flag

China has begun three days of mourning for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Sichuan province.

Flags are flying at half-mast and at 1428 (0628 GMT) a nationwide silence will be observed to mark exactly a week since the earthquake struck.

The mourning comes as hopes of finding more survivors in the rubble fade.

The number of confirmed deaths now stands at 32,477, but officials say the final toll may reach 50,000. More than 220,000 people have been injured.

After 6 months of waiting, finally, I got the GTA4 special edition game last night.

The game play is awesome as always. A lot of more in-game interactivities. Multi-player mode is also new to GTA series. Anyway, I have made a ring tone out of one of the songs that I like in this game. It is called ” I want you” by C.J.

Thanks again to Rockstar Games for bringing us another awesome title
